About the Recipe

Out of the many varieties of Nasi Goreng into in Southeast Asia, this recipe is inspired by a Malaysian breakfast dish made using leftover rice and vegetables. This flavoursome rice dish is ideally finished with fried eggs and a drizzle of kicap manis and can be enjoyed at any time of day.

Ingredients

  • Malay Taste Nasi Goreng kit

kit contains:

  • cooked rice with vegetables

    • nasi goreng paste

    • kicap manis to drizzle

    • seasonings to sprinkle

  • 300g chicken, cut into small chunks or your choice of protein

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 2 eggs

Our tip

This recipe tastes wonderful with prawns. Substitute the chicken for 300g raw peeled prawns and cook as above. Serve with prawn crackers.

Preparation

  1. Heat 1tbsp of oil in a pan, add the chicken and stir fry until cooked through.

  2. Lower the heat and add the nasi goreng paste, stirring to coat the meat with the paste.

  3. Stir in the rice and mix well ensuring everything is piping hot. Press your rice mix into a lightly oiled bowl and mould it to shape. Set aside.

  4. Add the rest of the oil into a pan and fry two eggs.

  5. Turn out your rice mix onto a plate and serves with your fried egg(s) on top.

  6. Sprinkle your seasoning sachet over your egg (it’s spicy, so adjust to taste) then drizzle over the kicap manis.
